Domaine de Gensac Terre à Terre 2009

Tannat, Malbec. 12 months in French oak barrels. 14% Alc.

“Intense opaque colour with a slight maturity on the rim. Intense nose, rather exotic and balsamic with new oak, wild herbs, inky black fruit, prune, liquorice and black truffle. Very dense and concentrated palate, very rich in tannin but has reached a good polish today, intense and lingering dark fruit flavours with an approaching complexity, very dense and very long finish. A wine that could age forever it seems.” Andreas Larsson / 94pts

Drinking Window: 2021 - 2026

The 2009 wine harvest in France is widely celebrated as one of the best vintages in recent memory, marked by a nearly perfect alignment of climatic conditions, contributing to what many consider an exceptional vintage across several regions. The season began with a mild winter followed by a warm, dry spring that promoted early flowering and fruit set. Summer saw continued warmth with adequate rainfall, ensuring optimal vine growth and grape development. These conditions allowed for extended hang times, resulting in grapes with excellent phenolic ripeness and sugar concentration.

Domaine de Gensac Terre à Terre 2015

Tannat, Malbec, Merlot. 12 months in French oak barrels. 14,5% Alc.

“Dark violet in the glass. Blackcurrant on the nose, with dark bramble fruit aromas. A heady and deep blend of Tannat, Malbec and Merlot grown on limestone terroir in the Gers region of southwest France. The palate is textured with chewy tannins and ripe fruit flavours - plum, black cherries and liquorice with the overall feel quite bold and full in the mouth. This is quite serious with density and depth of flavour.” Decanter

Wine & Spirits Top 100, 95pts.

Drinking Window: 2021 - 2030

The 2015 wine harvest in France stands out as a highly successful vintage. The growing season started with a cool, wet spring, which initially posed challenges but was followed by a hot, sunny summer that provided ample warmth without significant heat spikes. This balance allowed for steady vine growth and grape maturation. The timely rainfall in late August and early September relieved any hydric stress and boosted the final ripening phase, leading to well-structured grapes with optimal balance between sugar levels and acidity. Harvested grapes showed excellent phenolic development, which translated into wines with robust flavors, good color, and the potential for aging.

Domaine de Gensac Terre à Terre 2017

Tannat, Malbec, Merlot. 12 months in French oak barrels. 14,5% Alc.

“Impenetrable black colour. Sweet and perfumed with violet, cassis, dark cherry and some sweet oak derived spiciness. The palate has good weight and density, still youthful texture but ripe tannin, integrated but present oak, layers of ripe dark fruit, crème de cassis and kirsch with a very long and powerful finish. ambitious and well made. Drink from 2024.”Andreas Larsson / 93pts

The 2017 wine harvest in France was marked by a series of climatic challenges, yet it ultimately produced wines of high quality in several regions. The vintage was characterized by an unusual pattern of frost in late April, which significantly reduced yields but spared the best sites. Following the frost, the growing season saw a rebound with warm conditions accelerating the vine cycle. The summer was generally hot and dry, which stressed vines but concentrated flavors in the smaller grape clusters that survived. Harvest came early due to the accelerated ripening, leading to wines with lower acidity and higher alcohol levels. Despite the reduced yields, the grapes harvested were of high quality, resulting in wines with intense flavors and good aging potential. The 2017 vintage is noted for its robust character and depth, crafted under less-than-ideal circumstances but achieving remarkable results.
